Single tooth implants can be used in people who are missing one or more teeth. An implant is surgically placed in an opening that is made by the dentist in your jawbone. After the implant integrates (attaches) to your bone, it acts as a new ‘root’ for the crown that will be replacing the missing tooth. For this procedure to work, there must be enough bone in the jaw, and the bone has to be strong enough to hold and support the implant. If there is not enough bone, it may need to be added with a procedure called ‘bone augmentation’, which is a quick and easy procedure. What does the procedure involve?

The traditional method for placing an implant would involve 4 surgery visits. During the first visit, an incision is made in the gum where the implant will be placed. At the end of the healing period, which can take 3 months, a second visit will take place. At this visit a new incision will be made to expose the implant and a healing abutment is then screwed onto the top of the implant, we will then wait a week before taking an impression which will aid us in creating your new implant crown. Once the crown has been made, the last visit will involve fixing this crown to the implant.
